Young Japanese girls and women inhabit the trendy areas of Harajuku and Shibuya in Tokyo. Here some dress and make in outlandish but beautiful styles, some too far out to want to duplicate. Why? Escape perhaps. Right in the middle of the crowds these girls are invisible … except perhaps to the photographer. Guy Vinciguerra is one such photographer and his stark disturbing pictures remind one of a modern version of Japan’s traditional kakubi theatre.
